After 2 years of using my Samsung Odyssey G9, I decided to upgrade to the latest LG UltraGear 45" OLED 45GS95QE.
Hunt: Showdown looks incredible on this monitor.
Playing a lot of Hunt: Showdown, I was looking for an OLED monitor that had would have better colours and contrast. While the huge aspect ratio of the Samsung Odyssey G9 was immersive (and obviously very impressive), it overloads you with visual information while playing competitive online games.
The LG UltraGear 45" OLED 45GS95QE is a 45-inch ultrawide monitor with a 21:9 aspect ratio, 3440x1440 resolution, and a 240Hz refresh rate. It’s a beast of a monitor and while less wide than the 32:9 aspect ratio of the Odyssey G9, it ends up being a bit taller.
DOOM Eternal looking equally gorgeous.
So far I prefer the LG UltraGear 45" OLED over the Samsung Odyssey G9. Simply put, it feels more reliable. The Odyssey’s are notorious for having a high failure rate, and several times where I turned mine on, only to see a black screen for just a little too long, making me panic if it had died on me. Meanwhile, the LG has been rock solid so far.
While the Mini-LED backlight of the Odyssey G9 was no slouch, the OLED panel of the LG UltraGear 45" has much better contrast and colours. People tend to exaggerate the burn-in risk of OLEDs, but I don’t foresee any issues, based on the research I’ve done. The LG does its own “cleaning” every so often while you’re AFK, which prevents burn-in by periodically refreshing the pixels, and I’ve been using it regularly.
If you’re in the market for a new monitor, and you like big un’s like I do, then I highly recommend this one.
