I’ve arrived in South Korea, and I’ll be staying here for a while! 🇰🇷

A long time ago, back in my high school years, I joined a penpal program. Several students from South Korea & Japan contacted me, and we exchanged letters for a few years. Sharing stories about our lives and cultures, shipping big boxes of food, drinks and snacks to eachother. It was great.

Han River, South Korea Seoul’s Han River by night, a beautiful sight.

Before that, my only experience with South Korea was online games. You’d often see them in Ragnarok Online or Diablo 2, spamming the chat with ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ (the Korean equivalent of “lol”), I was already kind of fascinated back then, and kept up with many Korean movies and music over the years.

Han River, South Korea First meal in Seoul, so many banchan!

Life finds a way, I’ve now moved to South Korea to stay with my girlfriend, who happens to be one of those penpals from 16+ years ago.

Gyeongbokgung, South Korea Taking a walk together outside Gyeongbokgung, Seoul.

I’ve been learning Korean for about a year now (as self-study), and while I’m not fluent, I’m able to read and understand most signs (menus, public transport directions, etc), which feels immensely rewarding.

Seoul, South Korea South Korea looks crazy photogenic in the fall.

I’ll try to share some cool stuff every now and then about life here. Although it would probably be 90% food photos. Anyway, until then, stay tuned!
